• The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies and policies.

Eclipse Production+Design was contracted to design the focal point of the Forum exhibition- the UN Plaza. The objectives? To highlight British Columbia’s unique heritage, culture and sustainable building methods to the 10,000 delegates while creating a functional meeting place. The vision? To design and build a temporary log home structure, complete with outdoor ampitheatre and an indoor, fully-operational movie theater, and place it in the middle of the convention centre.

  • In keeping with the spirit of the World Urban Forum, Eclipse Production+Design ensured that the log home was constructed in as eco-friendly a manner as possible: using natural materials and sustainably grown lumber. After the log home was disassembled, it was donated to the builders in Chilliwack, BC, to be used as a lunch room.

Putting up a log home inside a convention centre is no small feat. This event posed numerous major logistical challenges, including engineering the ‘bare bones’ construction of the log home set off-site, disassembling it, and co-ordinating re-assembly on-site in a small space and under a tight time frame.

  • The result? A stunning log home that created not only a focal point for the room, but combined the best of British Columbia with a functional UN Plaza.
